Ehy it's nice to see How to Start a Revolution in 21 Days or Less back at the top of the blogroll! I was missing the whole thing. Also, I think the right question would be "Why not?" ^^
Yeah, the right question is "Why not?" If everyone's enjoying themselves, it's all good.
it's nice to see How to Start a Revolution in 21 Days or Less back at the top of the blogroll!Same here. I'd love to see Oddysey start posting regularly again. And we don't always have a choice as to which games sink their claws into our souls...
At least you recognize your status as an apostate.; )In all seriousness, I'll be interested in seeing how long your interest in that type of game lasts...I've known others to dip their toes back in and pull them out equally quick!
Echoing the "why not?", with a side-order of: most of what I've been tackling for the better part of a year is Pathfinder, Shadowrun and Exalted.Games more crunchy than the OSR likes aren't exactly a crime ;p
Games more crunchy than the OSR likes aren't exactly a crimeNah! Merely a vice. ;)
You are dead to me.HA HA HA I am such a jerk. *shrug* Dude, sometimes I get all "OOOOH I wanna play Champions and I don't know why!" myself, so I totally get it.It's OK, Odd, we're still friends.
Joking aside, I've never felt like there was some OSR gestapo that would jump on me for daring to play an unapproved system. However, I have been known to write detailed declarations of why I'm never going back to d20. There is the problem of hypocrisy. And thanks, Il Male, Knightsky, and everyone who's obviously still got me on your RSS feeds and whatnot. I'm not sure if I'm going to get back to "regularly" any time soon or not.
You should do some posts on how to run 3.5 with an OSR sensibility...because I feel the call from time to time, too. Just not sure if I could pull it off. :-/
Run as many games(and versions/editions) as you like! There's no shame in it! Besides somebody's gotta run a 'real' 3.X game(the D&D Fantasy Adventure Board Game I'm using for 3rd Edition Era sensibilities for one group, and the Castle Ravenloft 4thish Boardgame don't count, I don't think...) around here, 'cuz I just can't seem to get into it! :-)'the problem of hypocrisy':I wouldn't say it's an issue when it comes to enjoying a game.(Being 'flexible' on ethical issues, a problem; jaunting between various methods of journeying through imaginary worlds, not so much...) You're just vacillating between enjoyable options, and that's cool, imo.I hope you WILL be able(and willing) to post more personally. But regardless, have fun!As an aside: Have you seen the 3.X OGL game Peryton RPG, from Peryton Publishing?(Available here, and at Noble Knight, Amazon, etc...): Peryton RPG It has an Old-School vibe with modified, streamlined 3.X rules. You might like it, what with your past dabblings and all.Glad to see you're still kicking around!
sirlarkins: I really should write "A Sane DMs Guide to Running 3.5e." The system is honestly pretty manageable if you know what you're doing with it -- what to ignore, what resources to use, and why the system works they way it does.velaran: I had not seen Peryton, no. I'm actually in the process of ripping out the parts of the system that vex me so I can get something really useable out of it. That looks like it might be a handy example.
